About Us

8th Dec 1992 was the D Day when our RC Calcutta North Suburban was admitted to Rotary’s Global fraternity. This confirmation was conveyed to Charter President Rtn. B L Mukherjee by RI President Rtn. C Dochterman. The Club Charter was formally presented to the club by DG Rtn. K Chandramohan at the factory Garden of Duckback, Panihati on 7th Feb 1993.

As we all understand, establishing a Rotary Club under the banner of Rotary International, needs passion and dedication of some like minded souls with a burning desire to serve the society. Personalities whose untiring effort resulted in forming our club included names of Rtn. B L Mukherjee, Rtn. A C Munshi, Rtn. Samir Ghosh, Rtn. L N Bakshi, Rtn. Niranjan Das, Rtn. Shyamal Basu, Rtn. Pankaj Bagchi, Rtn. Partha Mukhopadhyay, Rtn. Sachin Chakraborty, DG Rtn. K Chandramohan, PDG Rtn. K K Navada, PDG Rtn. Amiya Shankar Gupta, Rtn. S J Sarbadhikary and Rtn. Dr. C N Sen.

From Dec 92, regular weekly meetings (RWM) of the club were held in the seminar hall of Indian Institute of Psychometry. This arrangement was made possible to our club  due to the generousity shown by Prof Manjula Mukherjee and Prof S Chatterjee. From Nov 2004, club RWMs were held at Surendra Ranjan Memorial Hall at 2 R N Tagore Road, Kolkata which was acquired and renovated suitably as Club’s own venue. Rtn. Saroj Biswas, Rtn. Shyamal Basu, Rtn. Charu Bikash Roy and Rtn. Partha Mukhopadhyay were instrumental in acquisition of this hall.

However due to some unavoidable circumstances, the club started its RWMs from 2007 onwards at Rangoli, Dunlop. This was made possible to our club mostly because of the generosity and whole hearted commitment of Rtn. Ratan Biswas. During the leadership of our past club leaders, club achieved remarkable milestones in all five avenues of Rotary Service. Received several awards for our excellent activities. Today RC Calcutta North Suburban is truly a vibrant club with enthusiastic Rotarians always on their toes for the betterment of the society.

The firm platform on which our club stands today has been the result of untiring effort and absolute perseverance of our senior Rotarians. So for every member, it is imperative to know our club history, the days of its struggle and survival and last but not the least, the enormous personalities who brought our club at today’s level.
